Gila County Historical Museum celebrates Globe-Miami's mining & ranching heritage during the 7th Annual Old Dominion Days Oct. 4-12. This annual event features speakers, historical re-enactment, and even guided walking tours of Globe's popular Stairizona Trail.
Main event of the opening weekend is Saturday’s Tribute to Mining Oct. 5 -- speakers start with a 'Copper 101' presentation at 9:00 a.m., then a guest speaker from Carlota Copper Operations at 10:00, Resolution Copper Company at 11:00, Capstone Pinto Valley at 1:00, and a speaker from Freeport McMoran Miami Smelter Operation at 2:00.
Also Saturday Oct. 5 you can join a walking tour of the Stairizona Trail guided by Thea Wilshire and Regina Ortega; call (808)373-0032 for details and where to meet.
The following Friday Oct. 11, the Museum presents 'Ranch Women: a Discussion on Ranch Life in Gila County" from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with speakers on the hour starting at 10 am with Linda Haught Ortega, then Linda Brost Griffin at 11, Jacque Cline Sanders at 1pm and Velma Stewart Tucker from 2-3pm. living history narrated by women who grew up ranching, and kin to generations of ranchers who settled this region.
Other Dominion Days events include a photography exhibit gallery opening at the Arts Center Oct. 12 – and up on the third floor of the art center, a special production that day by the Copper Cities Players, our local theatre troupe presents "Tales from the 1904 Globe Flood" - a historic event that destroyed much of downtown Globe and claimed many lives, re-enacted during 30-minute performances from actors telling the stories of 1904 victims
