Penn & Teller

For over 50 years Penn & Teller have defied labels—and at times physics and good taste—by redefining the genre of magic and inventing their own very distinct niche in comedy. The duo has enjoyed sold out runs on Broadway, world tours, EMMY-winning TV specials and hundreds of outrageous appearances on everything from Fallon to Friends, The Simpsons to Colbert, Modern Family to Big Bang Theory, plus their own specials for NBC, ABC, PBS and Comedy Central have garnered them an Emmy, a Writers Guild Award, and their own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The current hit series Penn & Teller: Fool Us! for The CW Network, on which up-and-comers and magic veterans try to fool Penn & Teller for a chance to star in the pair’s hit Las Vegas stage show, was nominated for a Critic’s Choice Award and has been renewed for an unprecedented 11th season. The show is the longest continual American magic television series in history, introducing the art to new fans and cultivating new generations of innovators within the craft.

Route 66 UltraRun

140 Miles of History and A Race for Everyone - The race recognizes and celebrates the history of the Mother Road. From the Bunion Derbies; “Oakie’s” during the Dust Bowl; the boom years of family road trips after WWII; decline after the interstate system bypassed mom- and-pop motels, restaurants, and shops; to grassroots resurgence leading to official recognition that Route 66 had “become a symbol of the American people’s heritage of travel and their legacy of seeking a better life.” Runners will journey through iconic Americana along 140 miles of historic Route 66 from Seligman to Topock66 Colorado River, Arizona. The event will host a maximum of 100 runners with a 60-hour cutoff, each supported by a dedicated crew. This 140-mile race benefits the Alzheimer's Association and Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona. Additional options are available for a fast solo runner, a team player or even a walker.

WONDER: Social Surrealism in Contemporary Art Closing Reception Featuring Performances by Abby Fisher

(un)certainty (2024) by Lawton Hall and Figure to Ground by Andrea Mazzariello are two pieces that will be performed in this concert, each offering a unique exploration of rhythm and complexity. (un)certainty, scored for solo marimba and electronics, delves into the tension between surety and doubt, inspired by advances in particle physics. Its five movements range from bold, frantic chords to quiet reflection, culminating in a rhythmic battle between marimba and electronics. Figure to Ground, written for Abby Fisher, simplifies rhythmic complexity into a single syncopated figure, gradually dissolving the pulse until a late melody reasserts it. Both pieces demand courageous performances, inviting listeners into deep contemplation of time and structure.
