Embark on Urban & Desert Adventures

The sprawling Valley of the Sun — the Phoenix metro area and 20 surrounding communities including Scottsdale, Mesa, Glendale, Chandler, Tempe and Gilbert — contains more than 14,500 square miles of opportunities for Sonoran Desert adventures and excursions.

For pro sports fans, MLB’s Arizona Diamondbacks, NFL’s Arizona Cardinals, NBA’s Phoenix Suns, WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury, IFL’s Arizona Rattlers and USL’s Phoenix Rising all call the Valley home. Every year, 15 MLB teams hold Cactus League spring training games each year in 10 area ballparks.

If you prefer to do the swinging yourself, book a tee time at one of the hundreds of area golf courses, including TPC Scottsdale, home of the PGA Tour's WM Open, and the Tom Fazio-designed Raptor course at Greyhawk Golf Club. Or venture into the great outdoors — don't forget the sun protection and water! — for hiking, biking, horseback riding or boating at one of the nearby state and regional parks.

Indoor experiences are even more plentiful in the Valley, starting with the culinary scene. Phoenix chefs claimed the James Beard Award for Best Chef in the Southwest in both 2024 and 2025, and several previous winners and nominees are dotted throughout the Valley. Feast your eyes upon the artwork at destination museums and galleries, explore the architectural wonders at Frank Lloyd Wright's winter workshop Taliesin West and Paolo Soleri's urban laboratory Arcosanti or simply relax and unwind at one of the Valley’s world-class resorts and spas. Your next urban adventure awaits!
